march 10, 2007,

This year marks the first edition of the much anticipated championships for World Rowing’s coastal rowers..

The interest in the 2007 FISA Coastal Rowing Championship for Clubs will certainly be great and it will be a big step forward for the sport. I truly believe that coastal rowing has real potential as an ambassador for our sport among adventurous souls who favour slightly more extreme activities.

Last year, in Guernsey, Channel Islands, the World Rowing Coastal Challenge was a great success, with excellent coastal rowing conditions and participants travelling from as far as New Zealand to take the start. Now back in France after two years away, we are sure that the coastal rowing community will continue to come together from all around the world to reflect the true nature and diversity of this sport which is practiced in so many different forms world-wide.

We thank Mandelieu, France and its rowing community for welcoming the 2007 FISA Coastal Rowing Championships for Clubs this year, and look forward to a splashing event!

Denis Oswald

Président, FISA

Marc Ragageot, president of the Rowing Club Cannes-Mandelieu

What an amazing project to organize the first World Rowing Coastal Championships fot clubs !

It's a real challenge that we must experience along with our partners: the Mandelieu-la-Napoule city council, the Alpes Maritimes country council and the provence Côte d'Azur regional council.

We will put all our energy, our enthusiasm and our expertise in order to match the importance of the challenge for the rowers.

>They are talking about it :

Coastal Rowing has been flourishing for a quite long time now, it led the french federation to organize a national championship since 1997

The FISA couldnt ignore the case and France was naturally given the opportunity to organize the first« world Coastal Rowing Championship ». the date is taken for october in that delightfull place that is Mandelieu-la-Napoule for spectacular and exciting racings that will allow to the coastal experts to exceed in their effort to conquer the fisrt FISA world title of the discipline

Jean-Jacques MULOT, président of the French Rowing Federation.

a measureless potential

Sturday october the 20th of 2007 should mark a decisive stage in the growing of rowing, and more particulary coastal rowing. It will be under the FISA patronage the fist « world rowing coastal championships » open to club crews.
This organisation was given by the FFSA to the Rowing Club de Cannes Mandelieu that I'd lie to recognize for its effort in order to promote coastal rowing. It's always touchy to engage on a new path, and coastal rowing internationalisation is one. We belive that the promotion will go thru the clubs and that they own the keys to development with unlimited potential.

I wish that withon years form now, the rowers taht enterd this first championship can be proud to say "I was there" considering the path made and the dimension taken by their favorite discipline. No doubt that it also shold be the case for the mandelocian organisingcommittee that I'd like to warmly thank. A great thank you to the FFSA whose engagement made the international promotion for coastal rowing.
Coastal rowing slowly got a more important place within the rowing family. it embodies at the same time the recreational and the environemental sides of rowing. Therefor it is also and embassador for its values and tradition.

Denis Masseglia, responsible of the Rowing For All FISA Commission
